So the Last Day at Waisman Center

Today is my last day at Waisman. I feel very sad about this leaving. This place is really great. Not only does it have good physical working environment, it also has many good and nice people. I guess most importantly, my boss is very nice and so is Frances, my office mate.

I went in around 910 this morning. Met my boss at around 10 or so. We talked as all of our previous meetings. And that was it. The last day, the last meeting. Then I cleaned up my stuff, returned the key, and said good bye to Frances.

I planned on getting everything done around Wednesday, so I could have more time to prepare to leave, more psychologically I guess. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to, so I finished my last bit of work last night. And I guess this is how I feel a little dangling right now.

Anyway. time to gather myself and move on.

hum... guess will have to stay at blogspot for a while.

I was gonna move to blogsome.com, because there I can categorize my entries, unfortunately, they server has been extremely slow lately, and their publicity just isn't as nice as blogger, so... sigh.. why is blogger so stupid not having categories?? this is unbelievable.

Food Fest!~

Ever since school ended for yen lin we have been having some food fest. Thursday night was a new sea food restaurant having fish, Friday night was a steak house that we've always wanted to go but never had the time, Saturday night, X'mas eve, we had lobster ( not that good lobster, kind of cheezy ), Sunday night, white hall steak, the biggest steak i have ever seen in my life. we even got a free pizza, b/c yen lin wasn't that into that huge pice of meet. This waiter was very nice. He even said that don't really worry about the bill, cuz they already closed the cashier and can't do credit card no more.

Beneton is on 50% sale, it was great~!

Less Than A Week. Time To Move Again.

Hun??

Move Again, and this blog was not even a week??

YES, you are totally correct.

Why? because yesterday I just found out some very shocking and disappointed limitation of blogger. THERE IS NO SUPPORT OF CATEGORIES! Oh.. Come On... which blog system has no category system?? Google... work it up man.. I really wanna be dedicated google user, but you don't let me.

so friends.. i am sorry.. i'll have to move again.

I mean.. i don't think many of you have visited this blog yet anyway...

this is pretty annoying and stupid...

Regarding X'Mas Present

This morning, I overheard my colleague talking to her friend regarding X'mas present list. Basically they are telling each other what their family wants, like she'd tell her what her son wants, and her friend would tell her whoever wants what.

This is very weird phenomena to me, though. Although when I was a kid, Santa always sent much stuff to me, but it is very strange to me that people actually do what they did this morning. Isn't it almost like asking for present?? I can totally understand like parents giving present to kids, or couple giving present to each other, but not actually calling friends and have them tell you what they want and buy them. @_@

Anyway.. maybe I'll become one of them one day.

Finally..Key Fixed

So I dropped by car at Bill's Key Shop once again, and they were nice to try to get that stupid piece of broken key out again, but still had no luck. So I left my car there, I don't know what they were gonna do but finally after I left job early to pick up the car, I have a new set of keys and a key hole that I can finally use to open the door. I don't have to climb into the driver's seat from the right anymore. But it cost me freaking 70 bucks total. Hate that!

Unbelievable, now phone is found.

I never thought that Yen Lin's phone can actually eventually be found, but I was wrong, and some one called this evening and said he's got the phone and wonder if I'd like to pick up. I did right the way cuz yen lin is having a final on Thursday, and she's really fighting with time. I called up later but he didn't pick up. Gotta pick it up tomorrow I guess.

Here is the list again,

a pen I bought for her

a watch

a lip balm she bought for me

a scarf ( found )

keys ( found )

a phone ( found? well... kind of ) (Yes! really found)

nutritional science text book

student ID ( found )

experimenting ecto

So this is an experiment of using ecto, a blogging client that helps you publish your entries on all these free blogging systems. It has received A LOT of positive reviews and comments. This thing looks pretty good so far. Hopefully it will be much better than iBlog. It's 18 bucks after 21 trial days, I think it will be worth it. Too bad that I paid for iBlog.

First Blogger Post

My server has been down every since I left Cornell. Technically speaking, my new ISP ( Internet Service Provider ) in Madison does not allow me to share my website content with the rest of the world. I have indeed investigated some other solutions, but non of them was satisfactory.

There is a lot of free blogging stuff on line, and I had been reluctant to use them because of many limitations. And mostly as a CS nerd, I just hope that I can do everything by myself. It feels good to host everything by yourself, cuz you are kinda playing God.

However, I have given up on those kind of thoughts. Life is changing, and I realized that I do not want to deal with much of these kind of stuff much more. What I mean is needing the time to care about my server; every time I upgrade my computer, much more work has to be done just so that the server can work correctly. It was fun before, now it has become a burden.

To be technical again. When hosting something like a blog, the best solution is to use some implemented package, and run a web server + a database on my own computer. The package will utilize the web server and the database to create all the functionalities in the blog (commenting, trackback, categorization and so on). I have hosted a database before, and don't want to do that anymore. Again, once computer is upgraded, the migration is just annoying. So I chose iBlog when I started "HoneyGreenTea" when I was in Cornell. This specific package requires no database, and is very configurable that I can add stuff I like myself. If you still remember, most stuff on the right hand panel were implemented by myself. Very unfortunately, iBlog is a very very unstable piece of software. I have almost lost all my entries many times. This is very very uncool.

So after poking around a little more, in the little free time I have since I started working ( didn't dare to spend time on these before I got a job ), I decided to give up my hope on hosting things by myself, and choose some premade system such as Blogger to continue my blog. All I need to do is write, and need no extra time to maintain things. I guess this is really the way to go. Why not losing a little bit of freedome to gain much more time both from maintaing the server and implementing the system. This way, I also don't have to wait no more to post before I have the system up running. Also I will not have the constrain that the ISP being an asshole. ( * NOTE: if you can avoid Charter Inc. DO SO! )

All these said, I will start/continiue my blog now on blooger. Although my server was down, I actually have tried very hard to keep myself writing. So I actually have all the entries stored on my computer from May to now. I will slowly repost everything on blogger.

I do not really know at this moment what will happen to www.laushu.idv.tw . If the ISP is good in Seattle ( Redmond to be exact) it might be up running once again. I have wanted to redo the whole thing for a real long time. But at least for now, blogging will officially be tested on bloggers. I hope this will be a place where I can stay for long now. I don't feel like moving around anymore. Since my first diary entry, the winter I graduated, I have moved three times. Hopefully this one will be the end of the experiments, and say permenant.
